Vysheslav (battleship)

Vysheslav - 66-gun sailing battleship of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Empire . One of the ships of the type " Asia ". [1] It was laid in 1778 in Arkhangelsk , launched in 1782, took part in the Russian-Swedish war of 1788–90 . Landing on the rocks near the island of Rodsher , it was blown up by the crew on October 23 ( November 3 ), 1789 .

History

It was laid down on August 27 ( September 7 ), 1778 at the Solombala shipyard in Arkhangelsk . The construction was carried out under the guidance of the ship master Mikhail Portnov . After launching on May 21 ( June 1 ), 1782 became part of the Baltic Fleet. [one]

In July – August 1782, as part of a detachment, he moved from Arkhangelsk to Kronstadt . In 1784 and 1785, as part of the squadron, he went on practical voyages to the island of Bornholm . December 20 (31), 1787 was appointed to the Mediterranean squadron. [one]

After the outbreak of the Russian-Swedish war (1788–90) , on June 25 ( July 6 ), 1788, he left Kronstadt as part of the squadron of Admiral S.K. Greig and took part in the Battle of Hogland on July 6 (17) . At the beginning of the battle he was at the head of the vanguard , and after changing the tack was in the rearguard . The first of the Russian ships opened fire and distinguished himself during the battle. As a result of the battle, he lost 52 crew members killed and 82 wounded, received many holes, damaged the mast and rigging . Chichagov, he went to sea and July 15 (26) took part in the Öland battle during which he lost 1 man and 11 wounded. Then, until August 16 (27), he cruised with a squadron in the area of ​​Cape Daguerort and the islands of Bornholm and Gotland , after which he returned to Revel. [one]

August 27 ( September 7 ) - October 11 (22), 1789, as part of a squadron, cruised again at Cape Daguerort. October 18 (29) as part of the detachment left Revel in Kronstadt. On October 20 (31) , not having time, following the rest of the squadron, to go around the Rodsher island, he anchored nearby, but was stranded by the wind, sat on stones at low tide , lost the steering wheel and damaged the bottom. On October 23 ( November 3 ), the crew switched to merchant ships, and the ship was set on fire and exploded. [one]
