The first success came to Birger Wassenius in 1933, when he became the silver medalist of the European Championship. After that, he became the world champion and medalist of world championships, medalist of European championships and Olympic games. At the beginning of 1940 he died during the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940 .
