Geographical position
Zelov is located on the western shore of the Oder, through it passes the former imperial road Aachen - Königsberg . Distance to Berlin - 70 kilometers, to the Polish border - 20.
History
In 1252 the village was German. "Villa Zelou" became part of the Magdeburg Archbishopric .
In 1630 , 1788 and 1809, major fires occurred in the city.
In April 1945, shortly before the end of World War II , there was a major battle between the Red Army and the German Wehrmacht - the Battle of the Zeelow Heights . It ended with the fact that Soviet troops opened their way to Berlin . The city of Zelov was severely destroyed as a result of hostilities and the ensuing fires, especially after the airstrike on April 17, 1945 .
From 1950 to 1993, Zelov was the center of the eponymous district .

Museums
Museum of the Zeelow Heights ( German: Seelower Höhen ), with monumental sculptures by Leo Karbel .
Monuments
- On the initiative and project of the cultural figure Ben Vagin in 1991 in Zeelovsky Friedenswald ( German Friedenswald ) were placed 13 sculptures symbolizing the "building of a united Europe."
- Monument to the victims of fascism , erected in 1968 (or, according to other sources - in 1972 ).
Architecture
Noteworthy is the local classic church, built in 1830 - 1832 by the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel . It was restored in 1997-1998.
Sport
In Seelow, there is a highway on which the European Championships in motorsport are held annually under the auspices of the FIA . The organizer is a local car club ( German: Motorsportclub MC Seelow ). Also in the city there are two football fields used by local teams.
Club SV Victoria Seelow holds city competitions on May 1 and Christmas , as well as a city festival (first Sunday of September).
Interesting fact.
Zeelov is the only city in the whole country of Brandenburg where cheese is produced in industrial volumes (since 1990 ). In the quarter of a century that has passed since 1974, special recipes have been developed, and, among other things, the exclusive Blue Master variety has been produced. However, in 2000, the owner of the company decided to transfer the production of this variety to the city of Falkenhain in Saxony , and Zeelov lost one of the already small number of attractions.

Seelow Station is on the Eberswalde - Frankfurt Oder branch. Seelow-Gusow Station is located in the neighboring town of Guzov-Platkov on the former Prussian East Highway Berlin - Kustrin .
The German federal highways intersect at Seeelow at number 1 and 167.
