Story
The main character, Frannie Glass, the younger sister of Simor and Buddy, comes over the weekend to her young man Lane, who studies at a prestigious university. Like her brothers, she is in conflict with the outside world. She despises people who strive to satisfy their ambitions at all costs, despise actors craving fame, professors, imposing on students erroneous ways of understanding the essence of the subject. This internal conflict is overwhelmed by the book “The Way of the Wanderer,” an English translation of the book of the unknown Russian author of the 19th century, “ Frank Stories of the Wanderer to His Spiritual Father, ” which tells of the experience of unceasing Jesus prayer . However, attempts with youthful maximalism, without proper readiness, to master this experience instead of high spiritual states lead Franny to the deepest spiritual discord.
In Zooey’s story, Zooey Glass, Franny’s brother, based on ideas of oriental mystical teachings, interest in which the elder brother Simor instilled in the family, tries to explain his sister’s condition and help her deal with him.
