Kalithea [3] [4] ( Greek Καλλιθέα [2] ) - a city in Greece , the southern suburbs of Athens . Located at an altitude of 25 meters above sea level [1] , on the shore of the Faliron Bay of the Saronicikos Gulf of the Aegean Sea, on the Athenian Plain , 4 kilometers southwest of the center of Athens , Omonias Square, and 22 kilometers northwest of the international airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" . The administrative center of the community of the same name (Dima) in the peripheral unit of South Athens in the periphery of Attica [2] . The population - 100,641 inhabitants according to the 2011 census [2] , is the most densely populated community in the Athenian metropolitan area. Area - 4.749 square kilometers [1] . Density - 21 192.04 people per square kilometer [2] . Dimitrios Karnavos ( Δημήτριος Κάρναβος ) was elected Dimarch in the local elections of 2014.

It borders on the east along Singra Avenue [5] with the Neos-Kozmos region , with the communities of Athens , Nea Smyrni , Paleon-Faliron , in the west - along the line of the Athenian metro and the Ilisos river - with the community of Moschaton-Tavros . The city is served by the station of Line 1 of the Athenian subway "Kalitea" .
The emblem of the community depicts Theseus , the son of Aegeus, who, according to ancient Greek mythology, upon returning from a trip to Crete, landed in Kalitea. Archaeological finds indicate the existence of a necropolis in the IV century BC. e. in the region of Kalithea. After the Asia Minor catastrophe , refugees from Asia Minor settled in Kalithea.
The University of Pantheon and the Kalitea Football Club are located in Kalithea , which holds home matches at the Grigoris Lambrakis stadium in Kalithea. On the beach of Kalithea there is an Olympic complex in Faliron . To conduct beach volleyball competitions at the 2004 Summer Olympics, a sports center was built . In 2016, the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center was opened, which includes the National Library and the National Opera .
