Notes
In the province of South Holland lies the city of Zoetermeer - the center of the community of the same name. Rotterdam is located nearby, only 30 minutes away by car. The central part of the city is an ancient district. There are many historical buildings and churches. In everyday life, Zoetermer is called the Dutch "Silicon Valley", as many citizens work in the field of information technology.
Almost until the mid-20th century, Zoetermer was just a small village where farmers and fishermen lived. Until the 17th century, a lake lay in the northern part of the city, about which an artificially created reservoir resembles. There are excellent conditions for fishing and kiting. A closed ski slope represents Snowword with three slopes. The length of the longest is almost 200 meters.
The active development of Zoetermer began in 1966. The reason for this was the lack of living space for the townspeople in the nearby The Hague. City streets began to be built up with modern houses. In a short time, a small settlement turned into a prosperous and economically developed city. The formation of a new way of life did not prevent the preservation of the former way of life and traditions. Old farms and village houses safely exist near skyscrapers.
