Biography
He was born in the village of Ignatievo of the Temnikovsky district , the Tambov province (nowadays - Kadomsky district of the Ryazan region ) in the family of a priest. In the family was the sixth child.
He graduated from the Kasimov Theological College, and then the Tambov Theological Seminary .
In 1887 he entered the Moscow Theological Academy , which at that time was headed by Archimandrite Anthony (Khrapovitsky) .
At the end of the Academy in 1891 , V. A. Probatov worked as a secretary for some time.
In August 1893, he was ordained and worked as a law teacher at the Kolomna men's gymnasium, and since 1900, the women's gymnasium. At the same time he was engaged in translations of religious and philosophical literature. On Sundays, he served in the Assumption Cathedral, and then in the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord and delivered sermons, participating, along with other priests, in conducting conversations explaining the service.
Due to conflicts with the gymnasium authorities, V. A. Probatov left the gymnasium and at the end of 1913 was appointed to the post of superintendent of the Kolomna Theological School , which was subordinate to the Office of Educational Institutions of the Moscow Diocese . The activities of Father Vasily as a caretaker continued until the school closed in 1918 .
From the end of 1917 - the beginning of 1918, he was acting rector of the Assumption Cathedral in Kolomna , and in mid- 1918, at the request of the parishioners, he was appointed rector.
The Great October Socialist Revolution did not accept, shared the position of Patriarch Tikhon . In his sermons, he did not allow any gross attacks or direct calls for disobedience to the authorities, but he denounced "the essence of godless power."
In 1926, he left the post of rector of the Assumption Cathedral in Kolomna and, due to a conflict with Bishop Theodosius (Ganetsky), received a ban on serving in the churches of the Kolomna diocese. For some time he served in the Trinity Church with. Shchurovo Ryazan diocese.
From that time he began literary work, which lasted almost until the end of his life.

He died on September 8, 1956 .
He was buried in the city of Kolomna .
