Administrative Division
The city is divided into 13 urban areas.
Geo Information
The firm foundation of the city is clay shales, marls, limestones and sandstones of the Mesozoic. In total, they have a capacity of 1000 to 1500 meters. Over the course of a long geological history, all these rocks have been subject to many multidirectional tectonic movements, forming anticlinal and synclinal bends, grabens, horsts and other, smaller, tectonic disturbances. Even deeper is the basement, composed of Paleozoic rocks: Devonian, Carboniferous and Permian. The upper loose horizon of sedimentary rocks in the Weser valley and its tributaries is a cover of glacial deposits of the latter in the geological history of the anthropogenic period (gravel-sand mixtures and loess).
The sand and gravel of the Weser valley is a wonderful collector of groundwater.
In geomorphological and landscape terms, the territory of Hökster belongs to the so-called “Oberwalder Land” territory, which is one of the small parts of the Central German Upland. Here, on widespread limestones beneath forests, sod-carbonate (rendzina) and brown soils formed. On gentle slopes and in lowlands on loessial bases, clayey-clay fertile soils known as loess brown, loess brown (para-brown) soils are developed.
