Biography
Born on January 6, 1931 in Leningrad in the family of a civil engineer.
During the blockade years he studied at school, since 1945 - at the Leningrad Military Mechanical College, which he graduated with honors in 1949.
Since 1948, he worked as a specialist in the Optical and Computing Bureau of the Optical and Mechanical Plant No. 357 "Progress", where he went from a technician to a leading designer of the enterprise, designing optical systems for microscopes and sights ,
In the same year he entered the evening faculty of the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics (now - St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics ).
In 1955, graduating with honors from LITMO with a degree in Optical-Mechanical Devices, he studied at the correspondence post-graduate course of the State Optical Institute named after S. I. Vavilov (now - JSC “State Optical Institute named after S. I. Vavilov” ) under the leadership of D. Yu. Halpern .
In 1959, he was the first in the USSR to create a program for the automated calculation of optical systems. Continuing research in the field of automation of the design of optical systems, he defended his thesis.
In 1976 he received a doctorate in technical sciences, defending a dissertation on the development of optical-mechanical equipment for microelectronic production.
From 1962 to 1998 he worked at the GOI im. S. I. Vavilova, successively in the positions of the head of the laboratory, the head of the scientific department and department, led the creation of software systems for the automated design of optical systems.
In 1970 - 1988, he led the development of optical systems for the production and quality control of microelectronic products.
In 1976 he began teaching at LITMO. Since 1982 - professor at the Department of Optical Instrument Theory, since 1996 - professor at the Department of Applied and Computer Optics, Faculty of Optical Information Systems and Technologies, St. Petersburg State University ITMO . Since 1998, at a permanent job at St. Petersburg State University ITMO and part-time as the chief scientific employee of the GOI.
He published, including in co-authorship, over 200 scientific papers, prepared more than ten candidates of science.
Co-author of several patented inventions in the field of optics. He was a member of the editorial boards of the Optical Journal and the journal Optics and Spectroscopy.
He died on August 28, 2014 in St. Petersburg.
