Akan belongs to the central group of the tano branch of the Kwa languages , where, together with the closely related language, Abron (including Vasa) forms an Akan subgroup. Akan is a dialect bundle consisting of dialect groups of fanti (mfants) and chvi (twi), often also considered as separate languages. The latter includes dialects: aquapim (actually chvi; aquuem), akyem, asante, asen, ahafo, dankyra and kwawa, and fanti: abura-fanti, agon, anomabo-fanti and goma.
