Biography

Vladimir Yakovlevich Shainsky was born on December 12, 1925 in Kiev into a Jewish family. Since 1936, he studied violin at the music school-ten at the Kiev Conservatory , but the outbreak of World War II interrupted his studies, and in 1941 the family was evacuated to Tashkent [7] . Vladimir continued his musical education at the Tashkent Conservatory , where he studied until 1943 , when he was called up to the Red Army . He served in the communications regiment in Central Asia , where he began to write music.

After the war in 1945, Vladimir Shainsky entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory at the orchestra faculty. From 1949 to 1952 he worked in the Leonid Utesov Orchestra. Then he taught the violin at a music school (1952-1954), and from 1954 to 1962 he worked as an orchestra, composer and music director of various pop orchestras.

In 1962 - 1965 he studied at the composer faculty of the Baku Conservatory named after U. A. G. Hajibeyov in the class of People's Artist of the USSR K. A. Karaev . Then he lived and worked in Moscow until 2000 .

Since 2000, he lived in Israel , in 2004 he moved to the United States ( San Diego , California ), where he received a residence permit . For a long time he lived in two countries: in Russia and the USA . Since 2013, he permanently resided in the United States [8] [9] . He had dual citizenship - of the Russian Federation and the State of Israel .

Vladimir Shainsky was ill with bladder cancer , underwent several operations (including the main oncology in 2008 ) [10] .

Death

He died at 2:10 am on December 25, 2017 , at the age of 93, after a long illness at the San Diego Hospital ( California , USA ) [11] [12] , where he was hospitalized on December 15 . Condolences to the composer's family and friends were expressed, among others, by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko [13] , Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky [14] and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin [15] .

Initially, plans were reported to bury Shainsky in the United States [11] [16] . But later, representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the widow of the deceased composer reached an agreement on his burial in Russia. Farewell and civil requiem with Vladimir Shainsky took place in the Moscow House of Composers on January 22, 2018; buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery [17] , section 21.

  • Mother - Ita Mendelevna Shainskaya (01.01.1898 - 01.01.1971) [19] , a microbiologist, worked as a researcher at the Kiev Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology [7] ; author of scientific papers.

Creativity

Shainsky worked in various musical genres. The composer's first works were the string quartet, written in 1963 at the conservatory, and the symphony, created in 1965 . He later composed the opera for children Three Against Marabuk (1974), several musicals :

As the composer admitted, many of his tunes were inspired by klezmer [23] [24] . In addition, the influence of the Viennese classical school is noticeable in the melodies and arrangement of his songs.
