Biography
He participated in competitions since 2005 . In the World Cup he made his debut on December 17, 2006 in the relay (14th place in the French La Clusaz).
2007 World Ski Championships
At the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo, Japan, on February 24, Korneenko went to the start of the 15 + 15 km skiathlon, but failed to finish.
On February 28, a virtually unknown 19-year-old Belarusian skier sensationally won silver at a distance of 15 km with a free style with a separate start. At this point, Leonid never even went to the start of the World Cup stages in personal races, taking the seventh hundred place in the FIS ranking at this distance. Because of this, Korneenko started at number three in the group of the weakest and managed to complete the distance before heavy snow began. For a very long time, the result of Korneenko (36: 25.8) remained the best at the finish, while Leonid Lars Berger , who started at number 55, was 35.8 seconds ahead of Leonid. The favorites of the race Tobias Angerer , Axel Taichman, Alexander Legkov, Franz Goering, Anders Södergren, who started in 110 numbers, failed to improve the result of the Belarusian (only Angerer, who took third place, lost to Korneenko in less than 30 seconds) [1] . At the same time, a few minutes before the finish of the favorites, the snow stopped, and some of them managed to play a big backlog just a few kilometers, but this was not enough to get ahead of Berger and Korneenko [2] . Korneenko became the first Belarusian in history to win a medal at the world championships in skiing. The coaches decided to put the young athlete in the national team at this distance after he became the second in this kind of program at the Belorussian championship. After the finish, Leonid said that he could not come to the World Cup at all, as he was going to take part in the youth world championship, but his dates were postponed, because of this it was decided to go to Japan. Korneenko also unexpectedly stated that “I do not see any sensation. Medals were won by those who wanted to win ” [3] [4] . Thanks to his success, Leonid earned a presidential scholarship [5]
On March 2, Leonid performed as part of the Belarusian 4 × 10 km relay race, where he took 13th place with team partners.
After the 2007 World Cup
In the World Cup, Korneenko never entered the top 10 in personal races, speaking mainly in the sprint. The last time the World Cup started was in early February 2010 in Canada, where he took 60th place at a distance of 15 km. At the 2009 World Cup, he performed unsuccessfully. At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, Korneenko in the personal sprint and at a distance of 15 km remained outside the top 50. He played in the team sprint with experienced Sergei Dolidovich, due to a mistake by Leonid (he mixed up the track), the team failed to finish in the semifinals.
In the fall of 2010, he was injured not related to the training process [6] . He recovered for a long time, managed to return to the tracks only in 2015. After 2010, he did not play in the World Cup, took part in the championship of Belarus, several FIS races.
