Euthymius Zigaben

Panoplia Dogmatics, Euthymius Zigaben, 12th-century manuscript

Euthymius Zigaben (Yevtimy Zigavin, Zigaden; Greek Εὐθύμιος Ζιγαβηνός , lat. Euthymius Zigabenus or Zigadenus ;? - circa 1118 ) - a Byzantine theologian and exegete .

First a brilliant courtier, then a monk. He wrote the story of all the heresies that existed at that time (Panoplia dogma, Greek πανοπλία δογματική ), starting from Simon Magus to Islam , with their brief refutations borrowed from the works of the Church Fathers . The nature of this work is quite compilation. Interpretations of the gigaben on the Four Gospels (found at the end of the 18th century and published by the Mattei in Leipzig , 1792 ), as well as on the psalms and the Song of Songs (published in the Bibliotheca patrum, vol. XIX), theological criticism was rated quite highly. All his works are collected in Patrologia Graeca Minya (volumes 128-131).
