The Parish of De Soto ( English DeSoto Parish , French Paroisse de De Soto , Spanish Parroquia de De Soto ) is located in the state of Louisiana , USA . Officially established in 1843 . As of 2010 , the population was 26,656. Named after the Spanish discoverer Hernando de Soto .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the parish is 2,318,052 km 2 , of which 2,268.842 km 2 are land and 49,210 km 2 or 2,100% are water bodies.

According to the 2010 census [1] , the parish has 32,000 inhabitants, comprising 12,562 households and 7,012 families . The population density is 11.00 people per km 2 . There are 11,204 residential buildings in the parish, with a building density of about 5.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 56.97%, African Americans - 38.16%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.82%, Asians - 0.41%, Hawaiians - 0.15%, representatives of other races - 0.54 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.66%. Hispanics made up 2.85% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 33.50% are children under the age of 18, 48.70% of households are married couples living together, 18.60% of households are single women without a spouse, 28.10% of households households are not related to families , 25.40% of households consist of one person, 11.60% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.60 people and the average family size is 3.11 people.
