Šternberk ( Czech Šternberk ; the old name Šternberg , German Sternberg ) is a town in eastern Bohemia in the Olomouc region of the Olomouc Region .

History
The first written mention of Sternberke dates back to 1296 (civitas Sternberch). In the 13th century, a castle was built here, around which a settlement arose. In 1371 the Augustinian monastery was founded here. In 1430-1432 Sternberk was in the hands of the Hussites . In 1538 a strong fire completely destroyed the city, the monastery and the castle.
In 1805, during the wars with Napoleon , a meeting took place between the emperors Alexander I and Franz II of Habsburg .
The city belonged to the representatives of Liechtenstein House .
After the end of World War II, the entire German population of Sternberg was evicted from the city.
Attractions
The entire central part of the city with an area of 78 hectares is a historical monument of local importance (since 1991). There are 61 registered cultural monuments here. Sternberk was awarded the title of the historic city of 2008.
