Biography

Ionov Petr Pavlovich was the eldest son in a large family of a blacksmith, headman of the Astrakhan community of Old Believers. In the Red Army since 1918 [1] , a member of the CPSU (b) [1] since 1919. Member of the Civil War [1] 1918-1920 Member of the Soviet-Finnish War . He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner in 1940 for exemplary fulfillment of the command assignments in the fight against white Finns.

He was engaged in pedagogical and scientific activities. In the late 30s - a senior lecturer at the Military Academy. M.V. Frunze, associate professor (1937), specialized in the development and combat use of aviation. In his work, he analyzed the development of aviation and aeronautics in the 1930s.

He stood at the origins of the combat use of the airborne troops, the development of the theory and practice of their use. During the war, he was involved in planning airborne operations and the creation of headquarters for formations and units of the airborne troops. In January and February 1942, when landing [1] behind enemy lines, the 4th airborne corps was engaged in ensuring the successful solution of combat missions of brigades and corps. In May and June 1942, it ensured successful landing in the rear [1] of the 23rd and 211st airborne brigades . In August 1942, he was engaged in the preparation and formation of airborne troops for operations on the Stalingrad Front and the Caucasus . In 1943 he continued to organize the activities of the airborne troops for operations. Since June 1943, he served as chief of staff of the Airborne Forces of the Red Army. He participated in the development of the plan of the Vyazemsky airborne operation - one of the largest in the Second World War.

In 1944, Lieutenant General of Aviation P.P. Ionov was appointed head of the Air Force Red Banner Academy .

June 24, 1945 was the commander of the consolidated calculation of the Air Force Red Banner Academy at the historic Victory Parade [2] .

After 1946, he was engaged in teaching, occupying the post of head of the department.

He was buried at the Don cemetery .
