He made his debut in the professional ring on May 26, 1983, having won by technical knockout in the 4th round. [2]
On November 26, 1985, he knocked out Melvin Paul, former contender for the world lightweight champion, in the 2nd round. [3]
On May 18, 1986, he defeated Harry Arroyo on ex-world lightweight champion points. [four]
On February 8, 1987, he defeated Roberto Elisondo, former technical contender for the world lightweight champion, by TKO in the 10th round. [5]
Championship fight with Greg Hogen
On June 7, 1987, he entered the battle against IBF world champion Greg Hogen . According to the results of 15 rounds, all three judges gave the victory to Patienza with the same score 144/141. [6]
Greg Hogen's Second Battle
On February 6, 1988, he met again with Hogen. This time, Hogen defeated by unanimous decision. Judges' score: 145/140 and 147/138 (twice). [7]

The patient went up into two weight categories, in the 1st average weight.
On October 1, 1991, the Patient went into battle against the world champion in the 1st middleweight champion according to WBA Gilbert Dele . Vinnie won by TKO in the last, twelfth, round and became the world champion in the second weight category. [12]
Crash
In 1991, the patient had an accident . Vinnie survived, but his neck was broken. Doctors said that boxing will have to be forgotten forever. During rehabilitation, the patient, secretly from doctors, visited the gym. His condition was improving. After 9 months of rehabilitation, he returned to normal. [13]
Return to the Ring
December 15, 1992, after more than a year from the last match, Patientza returned to the ring. In a ten-round battle, the Dominican Luis Santana was defeated. In the 9th round, the Patient twice sent his opponent to the floor of the ring. The score of the judges was devastating: 100/90, 100/89 and 100/88. [fourteen]

Victories Over Roberto Duran
The patient won two victories over the legendary Panamanian Roberto Duran .
On June 25, 1994, their first battle took place. It lasted all 12 rounds. The judges unanimously gave the victory to the Patient: 117/113 and 117/112 (twice). [16]
