Career
At the Olympics, Kanotto made his debut in Tokyo in 1964 . In the Japanese capital, a seventeen-year-old Italian played both in jumping from the springboard and in the tower, but both times he did not even make it to the top ten.
In 1966, Kanotto for the first time in his career became the winner of the European Championship, winning bronze at the championship in Utrecht . In 1970, in Barcelona, the Italian became the winner on the springboard and took third place in jumping from the tower, which was his greatest success at the European championships.
Giorgio won the first Olympic medals only at his third Olympiad. In 1972 in Munich, he became second on the springboard, and on the tower he won a bronze medal. Four years later, in Montreal, Kanotto won the second silver medal on the springboard.
At the 1978 World Championships in Berlin, the Italian became the third in jumping from a three-meter springboard. This medal was for him the only one at the world championships.
At the Moscow Games Kanotto was the oldest jumper, but was able to win the bronze at the three-meter springboard .
After the end of his career, Kanotto works as a coach in the Italian national team in diving with his wife, a participant in the Montreal Games, Carmen Casteiner . Their daughter Tanya also followed in the footsteps of her parents. She won two medals at the 2016 Olympics, the gold medal of the 2015 World Cup, and became the European champion 20 times.
