Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, Atkasuk has a total area of 109.82 square kilometers, of which 100.75 square meters. kilometers is land and 9.06 square meters. kilometers - water. The area of water resources is 8.25% of its total area.
The city of Atkasuk is located at an altitude of 20 meters above sea level [3] .
Edward Barnell Atkasuk Airport is located 1.6 kilometers south of the city’s central business district.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census [4] , 228 people, 44 families lived in Atkasuk, there were 55 households and 60 residential buildings. The average population density was about 2.3 people per square kilometer. According to the census, the racial makeup of Atkasuk was as follows: 4.82% White , 0.44% Asian , 0.44% mixed race.
Of the 55 households, 50.9% raised children under the age of 18, 47.3% were married couples, in 21.8% of the families women lived without husbands, 18.2% did not have families. 16.4% of the total number of families at the time of the census lived independently, while among residents aged 65 there were no single people. The average household size was 4.15 and the average family size was 4.49.
According to the 2000 census, the city population according to the age range was distributed as follows: 40.4% - residents under the age of 18, 8.8% - between 18 and 24 years old, 29.8% - from 25 to 44 years old, 15.4% - from 45 to 64 years old and 5.7% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of residents was 26 years. For every 100 females in Atkasuk, there are 113.1 males, while for every 100 females 18 years and older, 123 males are also older than 18.
The median income per household in the city was $ 66,607 , and the median income per family was $ 53,750. At the same time, men had an average income of $ 41,875 per year, compared to $ 27,500 of the average annual income for women. The per capita income for the city was $ 14,732 per year. 25% of the total number of families in Atkasuk and 15.6% of the total population were below the poverty line at the time of the census, of which under the age of 18 and 57.1% were aged 65 or over.
