History

In 1921, the United States established diplomatic relations with Hungary after the end of World War I. During World War II, Hungary broke off relations with the United States and declared war on them in 1941. In 1945, relations were resumed. After the war ended, Hungary became a satellite of the Soviet Union . In the 1980s, Hungary began to move away from the USSR, and the United States offered assistance in drafting a new constitution , establishing a democratic political system and introducing a plan to create a free market economy. In 1999, Hungary joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the European Union in 2004. Hungary took part in many NATO coalition operations, sending troops to Afghanistan and the Balkans .

Trade

In 1989, after the fall of the communist regime, Hungary moved from a planned economy to a market economy and is currently a member of the European Union. The United States is one of the main foreign investors in the Hungarian economy . Hungary's strategic position in Europe, access to the EU markets, highly qualified and educated workforce, and the availability of reliable infrastructure have led many American companies to establish their representative offices in this country.
