In 1840 he returned to Berlin University , where he was rehabilitated in church history and two years later received the title of extraordinary professor. The main focus of his work during this period was the preparation of a proposal for the reform of the Protestant church calendar (with the support of King Frederick William IV). Already in 1849, with his efforts, the Museum of Christian Art in Berlin was founded with state support, where Pieper gave lectures. In 1869-1870 he was again on an expedition to Italy and Greece. I have never been married. In the summer of 1889 he went to Rügen, where his health deteriorated greatly; died a few months later from brain inflammation.
