Career
Jin Boyang was born in Harbin on October 3, 1997. Since childhood, he has been engaged in figure skating. Since the fall of 2012, he began performing at the junior stages of the Grand Prix, and immediately managed to break into the finals in Sochi . The next Olympic season, he was able to once again reach the youth finals and win it, turning the tide after a short program [3] . In addition, he also became the champion of China.
In the aftermath of the Olympic season, Jin again confidently reached the Junior Grand Prix finals [4] [5] , but this time he went after the short program in second place, but didn’t get on the podium [6] . In the Chinese championship, he again became a champion and received the right to represent the Celestial Empire at the world championships among juniors for the third time. At the junior championship in Tallinn, the Chinese skater lost gold to the Japanese Uno in a difficult fight [7] .
In recent years, Boyan has been betting on the extreme difficulty of jumping elements, and in the 2015-16 season for the first time in the history of figure skating he announces 6 quadruple jumps in two programs, as well as includes 3 different quadruple jumps and purely performs the most difficult element in figure skating, a quadruple cascade Lutz is a triple sheepskin coat [8] .
He began a new season among adults. At the home Cup of China in the Grand Prix series, there he performed excellently, improved all his previous sports achievements and took second place [9] . At the final stage of the Grand Prix in Nagano, he took second place and exceeded his achievements in the short program and total [10] . After that, he first reached the Grand Prix finals . In Barcelona, he did not perform very well and finished penultimate, but improved his achievements in the free program. At the same time he was in the top three after a short program [11] .
The year 2015 ended for the Chinese with a third consecutive victory at the national championship.
In January 2016, Boyan takes part in the Chinese National Winter Games , where he takes first place. The following month, the Chinese team travels to Taipei to compete in the Four Continents Championship . In the men's competition, Jin Boyang leads after a short program (setting a personal record along the way), bypassing the Japanese Shomu Uno by 5 points, and in the free and final protocol finishes second, following the Canadian Patrick Chan . The difference between the owners of the first and second places was only 0.38 points. At the same time, Boyan for the first time in the world performed four quadruple jumps in one program (Lutz, Salkhov, solo sheep’s coat and in a cascade with a double sheepskin coat). At the World Championships in American Boston, he won the bronze medal in the wrestling - the first in the history of men's singles in China.
In mid-October, the Chinese skater performed at the Grand Prix stage in Chicago , where he began the new pre-Olympic season at the America's Cup and took a place in the middle of the table [12] . In mid-November, he took part in his second stage of the Grand Prix this season in Beijing , where he won second place in the Chinese Cup in a bitter struggle, and took first place after a short program [13] . This allowed him to become a substitute in the Grand Prix finals in Marseille . Before the New Year, he once again became the champion of the country. In February, the skater performed in Gangneung in the continental championship , which he completed with the best of the Chinese skaters, fifth [14] . A week later, a Chinese athlete took part in Sapporo at the VIII Asian Winter Games , where he lost the first place in a bitter struggle [15] . At the same time, he improved his previous athletic achievement in the short program. At the end of March, a Chinese loner performed at the world championships in Helsinki , where he managed to win a bronze medal in a bitter struggle [16] . At the same time, he won two places for his country at the upcoming Olympics in South Korea and improved all his previous sports achievements.
Three weeks after this, the skater was sent to the team world championship , where he performed very well [17] [18] .
In early October, the Chinese loner began a new Olympic season in Espoo , on the Trophy of Finland , where he finished with gold [19] . A month later, the skater performed at the home stage of the Grand Prix series in Beijing, where he finished with a silver medal [20] . At the end of November, at the American stage in Lake Placid, he finished next to the podium [21] . According to the results of participation in the Grand Prix, he reached the Grand Prix Final , however, for several reasons, he withdrew from the final [22] . Having missed the Grand Prix Final and the Chinese Championship, Boyan got the opportunity to recover from injuries that did not allow the skater to perform at a high level recently. The Chinese demonstrated their full physical and technical readiness in January at the championship of the four continents in Taipei, which is the final start before the main competition of the four-year cycle - the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Unmistakably fulfilling the short program, Boyan was in second place, losing a little more than 0.3 points to a rival to the principal opponent since junior times - the Japanese Shume Uno. In the free program, Boyan Jin accurately performs four quadruple jumps and two triple axels, which allows him to overtake the Japanese in the final protocol and become the champion of four continents for the first time in his career. Jin did not take part in team competitions at the Olympic Games. In mid-February, in Gangneung, at a personal tournament in the Olympic Games, the Chinese loner performed very well and improved his previous achievements in the short program. The skater eventually finished next to the podium.
