Edouard Tournier ( Fr. Édouard Tournier ; April 29, 1831 , Besançon - March 24, 1899 [1] , Paris ) is a French classical philologist and teacher.
He graduated from the Higher Normal School (1850), taught in provincial lyceums and gymnasiums in Besançon, Macon , Bourges , then from 1863 in the Lyceum of Charlemagne in Paris . In 1863, Mr .. defended his thesis " Nemesis and the wrath of the gods" ( fr. Némésis et la jalousie des dieux ). Published Critical Notes on Colluf ( fr. Notes critiques sur Colluthus ; 1870), a number of articles in scientific periodicals. Edited and commented by Tournier, the tragedies of Sophocles and the writings of Lucian of Samosatski were published, excerpts from Herodotus adapted for educational purposes. The author of the textbook "The Beginning of Greek Grammar" ( fr. Premiers éléments de grammaire grecque ; 1882) and the educational dictionary.
He taught at the Higher Normal School and (since 1868) the Practical School of Higher Studies , since 1894 he was its director. Among his students, in particular, Charles Gros . Commander of the Order of the Legion of Honor (1895).
