The Magadan regional organization of the All-Russian creative organization "Union of Artists of Russia" (the original name is the Magadan branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR ).
Background
The creation of the regional organization of the Union of Artists in Magadan was preceded by the work of the Department of Culture of the Magadan Region established in 1953 to hold exhibitions of local artists. The organization of exhibitions and studios at the House of Folk Art became possible thanks to the active work of art historian Larisa Timasheva and artist Valentin Antoshchenko-Olenev , who became the studio's teacher [1] .
In November 1956, works by Magadan artists were first presented at the exhibition "Siberia and the Far East" (Irkutsk). On December 5, 1956, the first regional art exhibition was held, at which more than 560 works of 139 authors were presented [1] .
Regional Organization of Artists
August 12, 1957 the board of the Union of Artists of the USSR decided to establish an organizing bureau for the creation of the Magadan regional branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. Also in 1957, the Magadan art-production workshops were opened, subordinate to the Yakutsk branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR [1] .
For the official opening of the department it was necessary to have in the field of ten individual members of the Union of Artists. In 1957 several Magadan artists became candidates for membership in the union. The first members of the USSR Union of Artists in Magadan in 1960 were the artist Dmitry Bryukhanov and the sculptors Mikhail Rakitin and Kim In Ho. Also the most famous masters of the Chukchi bone-carving industry became members of the union. As a result, the required number was reached, and on April 27, 1962 the Magadan branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR [2] was formed , Dmitry Bryukhanov [1] became its first chairman.
In 1960, the works of Dmitry Bryukhanov and Mikhail Rakitin were first presented at the republican exhibition “Soviet Russia” in Moscow [2] . Such artists as Valentin Antoshchenko-Olenev , Dmitry Bryukhanov , Georgy Wagner , Hertz Shlomanis , Vasily Shukhaev , Vera Shukhaeva , sculptors Kim In Ho , Mikhail Rakitin , Georgy Lavrov , Zinaida Likhacheva worked in the city. In 1965, the first art school opened in Magadan. For a number of years the program “In the artists' workshops” was published at the regional television studio, the public editorial office of which was headed by Larisa Timasheva [1] . Since its inception, the Magadan department has organized annual regional art exhibitions, as well as exhibitions of works by young artists and thematic expositions.
After 1991, the Magadan branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR entered the WTO "Union of Artists of Russia". Now the organization includes about 30 painters, graphic artists, sculptors, artists of the theater [3] .
