Biography

Born October 6, 1870 in Louisville, Kentucky, in the family of Lansford [1] and Louise [2] Yandell.

She studied at Louisville College Hampton College , where she received initial knowledge in art. Then she studied at the Art Academy in Cincinnati , passing a four-year program of study in two years, graduating from this university with a medal in 1889 . As part of the White Rabbits group of female sculptors, Enid Yandell helped Lorado Taft with the design of the American Gardening Pavilion at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago .

In 1894, she went to Paris , where she studied and worked with Auguste Rodin and Frederic MacMonnis . She also worked with other sculptors at the Vitti Academy in Montparnasse . Later, she often visited Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon . In 1898, Enid Yandell became the first woman to become a member of the National Society of Sculptures .

In addition to art, Enid Yandell was engaged in social activities. She helped educate future artists by founding the Branstock School in Massachusetts in 1908. She also collaborated with the Appui Aux Artists movement in support of artists. Yandel was an active supporter of women's suffrage and campaigned for the election of President Calvin Coolidge . During World War I, she participated in the Red Cross and worked in France. After returning to the United States, she served as director of the communications agency for the American Red Cross in New York .

Died June 13, 1934 in Boston , Massachusetts. Buried at Cave Hill Cemetery Cemetery in Louisville , Kentucky. [3] She had sisters Maud Yandell (1871-1962) and Elsie Yandell (1874-1939), as well as her brother Lunsford Yandell (1878-1927). Elsie's sister was married to the American architect Donn Barber (1871-1925).
