Album Information
The unique sound and quality of the Diamond Head music was able to attract the attention of many labels during a joint tour with AC / DC and Iron Maiden . Although many record companies fought for a contract with the band, none of them was willing to devote themselves to it completely. And even the fact that at that time the manager of the group was the mother of Sean Harris (Linda Harris), did not give the group a commercial push. Thus, while the other bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal signed contracts with major labels and were headliners on their own tours, Diamond Head remained in the background. Then they decided to release the material on their own label, Happy Face Records.
The album was recorded for seven days at The Old Smithy Recording Studio in Worcestershire , which the group described as βdeadβ [1] . The album came out in a simple envelope for the record. It lacked the name and the list of songs, there was only the signature of one of the members of the group. The reason for this was that the producer of the group, Reg Fellows, owned a cardboard factory and could make such packages with minimal cash outlay. Another reason for recording this album is an attempt to lay down several tracks for subsequent sending to larger recording companies in the hope that they will be interested in them. This idea came from Fellows and Linda Harris (mother of Sean Harris and tour manager of the group). Initially, only 1,000 copies of the album were released, which could only be purchased at concerts of the group or ordered by mail at a price of Β£ 3.50. In fact, an advertisement about a possible order of the album by mail appeared in only one British magazine Sounds and lasted four weeks. Be that as it may, the group did not pay for the advertisement, as a result of which it was the defendant in court.
This album has become one of the most valuable for collectors. Later another 1000 copies of the album were released, but with a list of tracks. Unfortunately, the only one and a quarter inch master tapes were lost after the band sent them to the German recording company Woolfe Records, which they released on their label (their version had a map of the burning world on the front side). In 2001, Sanctuary Records re-released the album along with the band's early singles.
