2012–13: Debut with Angels' Story , Wanna Be , AOA Black, and Red Motion

From July 16 to July 23, 2012 individual teasers of each participant were presented ^{[1] [2]} . Angels' Story 's debut single album was released online on July 28, two days before its official release. ^[3] The video clip “Elvis” was released on July 30th. On August 9, AOA debuted on the stage of M! Countdown ^[4] . On October 10, the second single album, Wanna Be , was released ^[5] ; the first week of promotion was held with five people as AOA Black.

July 11, 2013 it became known that AOA Black will return with the digital single “Moya” ^{[6] [7]} . None of the previously released singles of the group was successful, so the AOA completely changed the image and pitch on stage; the sexual images of the participants became the key to success, and the video “Confused” was released on October 9th ^[8] . The single motion album Red Motion was released on October 13th ^[9] .

2014-15: Miniskirt , Short Hair , Like a Cat , Heart Attack, and Japanese Debut

On January 16, 2014, AOA returned with the song "Miniskirt", produced by Brave Brothers, Galactika and ElephantKingdom ^[10] . On February 9, the band won their first career victory at Inkigayo ^{[11] [12]} . The first mini-album Short Hair was released on June 19, the single of the same name was also successful on the Korean charts; the video was one of the most watched Korean videos in the world in June ^[13] . On June 27, the girls performed at the special broadcast of Music Bank along with BESTie and Girl's Day , where they performed the hit single Girls' Generation "Mr. Mr" ^[14] .

On November 11, 2014, the second mini-album Like a Cat was released; On November 19, the group won a single of the same name on Show Champion ^{[15] [16]} .

The Japanese version of Like a Cat was released on February 25, 2015, and Japanese versions of Elvis and Just the Two of Us were also released with it ^[17] . On February 2, a short version of the video clip was presented ^[18] . Like a Cat debuted in the top 10 and reached its peak third place on the daily album chart and became No. 1 in Tower Records Shibuya on release day ^[19] . On February 26, the premiere of the pilot episode of the group’s first reality show - “Discover! AOA ” ^[20] . On April 7, filming of the show “One Beautiful Day with AOA” started on Monkey Island in Hainan Province ; The broadcast began on June 13 ^[21] .

On June 22, the release of the third mini-album Heart Attack took place, the showcase was held on the same day in AX Korea ^{[22] [23]} . “Heart Attack” was a success in Korea, on release day reaching leading positions on the music charts ^{[24] [25]} . The album achieved success in the world album chart , reaching the fifth line ^[26] . In August, AOA performed for the first time in the United States at the annual KCON Korean Music Festival in Los Angeles and New York ^{[27] [28]} .

On October 14, Ace of Angels released their debut studio-based Japanese album ^[29] . On December 18, the AOA gave their first concert in Tokyo ^{[30] [31]} .

2016-17: AOA Cream, Good Luck , Runway , Yukyon and Choa Care

On January 1, 2016, FNC Entertainment management announced that AOA will release an album in the first half of the year and will host AOA Black's comeback ^[32] . On January 27, the creation of a unit of Chanmi, Hyojong and Yuna, called AOA Cream , was announced ^[33] . The debut took place on February 12 ^{[34] [35]} . April 12 launched the reality show "Channel AOA" ^[36] . May 16 was the release of the fourth mini-album Good Luck . The promotion was completed two weeks later, on May 30th ^[37] .

On August 8 and 9, the participants posted messages to their fans in honor of the fourth anniversary of the debut, and also shared videos from the process of creating Good Luck ^{[38] [39] [40]} . On October 15, it was announced that Yukyon would leave the agency due to the expiration of her contract, but would act as a guest member at AOA Black during any of their future activities ^{[41] [42]} .

On January 2, 2017, AOA released their debut Korean studio album, Angel's Knock ^{[43] [44]} . On March 11, the band held their first concert in Seoul ^[45] .

On June 22, Choa announced that she was leaving the group, but the agency denied this statement ^{[46] [47]} . On June 30, Choa’s departure was officially confirmed ^{[48] [49]} .

In November, the AOA attended an event in Incheon and became Goodwill Ambassadors in honor of the 2018 Winter Olympics. ^[50]

2018 — Present: Bingle Bangle and Mina's Care

On April 18, 2018, FNC Entertainment management announced that the group would return to the scene with six members ^{[51] [52]} . On May 28th, AOA released their fifth mini-album, Bingle Bangle ^[53] .

May 13, 2019 it became known that Mina also left the group ^{[54] [55]} . On the same day, the representative of Choa stated that the girl also left the agency without renewing the contract. ^[56] July 23 AOA were announced as new participants in the show of survival "Kingdom of the Queens" ( Eng. Queendom ) ^[57] .
