Biography
From a family of Sudeten Germans . He studied electrical engineering .
In October 1913 he volunteered for the Imperial and Royal Air Force . Primary military training took place in the 1st regiment of fortress artillery ( Vienna ), and flight training - Fischamenda . On November 23, 1914, he received his field pilot certificate ( Feldpilotendiplom ) and was assigned to the 6th flight company ( Fliegerkompanie ) in the Balkans, where he was the reconnaissance and gunner of the artillery with the rank of zugfuhrer (sergeant). Flying on “Lloyd Type LS 2” and “Lohner”, he participated in operations against the Serbian-Montenegrin troops.
December 20 was forced to make an emergency landing in the Adriatic Sea. In October 1915, due to engine failure, he made an emergency landing on the Montenegrin territory and was captured. In the middle of January 1916, from the 6th attempt, he escaped from captivity (along with 5 other Austro-Hungarian military personnel), using the Fiat car of King Nikola . January 23, returned to the location of his flight company.
On August 22, headquarters sergeant sergeant Arigi violated the order and, together with sergeant servant Johan Lasi, flew out against 6 Italian "Farmans" - at that time the departure was permitted only with the officer as the aircraft commander. During this first air battle, he became an ace, knocking down 5 out of 6 opponents. After that, he moved to a single-seat Hansa-Brandenburg DI and by May 1917 had 12 victories in his account. He was transferred to Fliegerkompanie 41J, but could not find a common language with Hauptmann Brumovsky and was transferred to Fliegerkompanie 55J. As part of this squadron, he brought the number of victories to 25.
In April he was transferred to Fliegerkompanie 6, where, flying an Avatik D1, he shot down three more aircraft. In the summer of 1918, Arigi was transferred to Flik 1J, where he brought the number of victories to 32.
After the war he became one of the creators of the civil aviation of Czechoslovakia. However, at heart he remained a German and joined the National Socialist movement . In 1938 he became an instructor in the Luftwaffe . He trained two aces such as Walter Nowotny (258 wins) and Hans-Joachim Marcel (158 wins). Died in a dream in 1981
