Sayidmuhammad Khasmuhammadovich Abubakarov ( September 15, 1959 , Tsilitl , Gumbetovskiy district - August 21, 1998 , Makhachkala ) - mufti , chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Dagestan . He died as a result of the attack.

Biography
He was born on September 23, 1959 in the village Tsilitl of the Gumbetovsky district [1] . While still at a young age, he learned the Arabic alphabet [2] . Parents, having appreciated the abilities of the child, sent him to school when he was only five years old. Thanks to classes with a teacher hired by his father, Sayidmuhammad-haji at the age of ten perfectly mastered tajvid [1] .
In 1975, Sayidmuhammad-haji entered the dental faculty of the Makhachkala Medical Institute , after graduating from the institute for 3 years he worked in a specialty in Goragorsk , then in one of the Makhachkala clinics, after that he was engaged in private practice [1] [2] .
Since 1993, he was deputy mufti of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Dagestan. In 1993-94 he studied at the Syrian University "Abu Nur" [1] [2] .
On July 1, 1996, in connection with the illness of Alikhadzhi Aliyev, who was at that time a mufti, Sayidmuhammad-haji was appointed acting mufti. On August 26, 1996, Sayidmuhammad-haji Abubakarov was unanimously approved by the Mufti of Dagestan as members of the Council of Alim of Dagestan [1] [2] .
Doom
On August 21, 1998, when Abubakarov drove into the territory of the central mosque of Makhachkala for Friday prayers in an official car GAZ-3110 , unknown criminals detonated a radio-controlled bomb planted on the road. Together with Sayidmuhammad-haji, his brother Ahmed and the driver died [2] [3] .
Reaction
Sergey Stepashin , who headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs at that time, took the matter under personal control [3] .
Ravil Gainutdin said: “The murder of the Mufti of Dagestan is a tragedy for all Muslims of Russia. The last time we met with him was on July 24 at a meeting of the Muftis in Moscow. Abubakarov said he was forced to constantly change cars. It means that even then he was in danger ” [3] .
Memory
December 7, 1998 Chernyshevsky street in Makhachkala was renamed Abubakarova street [1] .
On August 22, 2003, in memory of the fifth anniversary of the death of Sayidmuhammad-haji in Makhachkala, the scientific-practical conference "Islam in the modern world: the life and work of Sayidmuhammad-haji Abubakarov" was held [4] .
Activities
Sayidmuhammad-haji was an active fighter with the Wahhabis. According to him, if you do not fight them, “religious fanatics will turn our country into Afghanistan” [3] .
He became one of the initiators of the law of the Republic of Dagestan “On freedom of conscience, freedom of religion and religious associations”, adopted on December 30, 1997 [2] .
