The formula of the tournament was changed compared to last season, instead of breaking down into regional zones, a single tournament was held with the participation of 10 teams playing in four rounds. Because of this, the number of participants in the major league was reduced from last year's 18 to 10. The only youth debut of the season was the youth team of Kyrgyzstan (despite the name, the team consisted of 17-year-old players born in 1987).
After the first half of the season, the SKA Air Defense team was renamed SKA-Shoro due to a change in sponsor. At the same time, the Shoro team, which was previously supported by the same sponsor, withdrew from the championship; in the remaining matches of the third and fourth rounds, defeats were counted. Neftchi Club (Kochkor-Ata) withdrew from the tournament after 29 matches.
