Between 1930 and 1931 she broke 16 world records. At the 1932 Summer Olympics, she won 3 gold medals, setting 2 world and 1 Olympic records. After completing a career, she became a swimming instructor. Died of laryngeal cancer in 1970 in Seattle. In 1966 she was included in the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and in 1992 - in the US Olympic Hall of Fame.
