Biography
Stanislao Prato was born on August 11, 1842 in the city of Livorno. Having received the necessary education, he worked as a teacher of Italian literature at a number of royal colleges, including Noto; He was a member of a number of Italian and foreign academies [1] . He was mainly engaged in the study of Italian folklore and folk literature, writing on these issues a large number of scientific works that earned a positive assessment of criticism (especially for the "richness of comparisons" used in them).
His main works are Quatro novelline popolari (1880), Caino e le Spine secondo Dante e la Traditione popolare (1881), l'Uomo nella Luna (1881), La loggenda di Nala (1881), “Gli nltimi lavori del folklore neolatino” (1883), “Les formulettes initiales el finales des Contes populaires de Blade” (1887), “Un passage du Livre de Tobie et la Tradition populaire” (in “Tradition”, 1888). In various Italian publications his novels and poems were printed.
Stanislao Prato died on December 9, 1918 in his hometown.
