Historical background

For the first time, mineral water of the "Essentuki No. 4" type was obtained from well No. 4 of the Essentuki mineral water field. In the 1950s, carbon dioxide mineral thermal water of the "Essentuki No. 4" type was obtained from a spring well located in the northern part of the Essentuki resort region (Novo Blagodarnoe village) - this solved the problem of the practical bottling of this type of mineral water in bottles. The discovery of the Nagutskoye mineral water deposit of the “Essentuki No. 4” type subsequently created the conditions for a further significant increase in the volume of bottling of this type of water. On the territory of the Essentuki there are 11 sources of this type [2] .

Under the brand name "Essentuki No. 4," mineral water was produced that was bottled with a chemical composition and therapeutic effect that was produced from well No. 49 of the Nagutskoye field, located about 30 km from Essentuki, which belongs to the same group (XXVa according to GOST R 54316-2011 ) and the type of mineral water as Essentuki No. 4. However, from July 1, 2012 after the entry into force of GOST R 54316-2011, the water of the Nagutskoye field began to be sold under the trade name "Nagutskaya No. 4" [1] .

Chemical Composition

Natural mineral water of the type "Essentuki No. 4" comes from wells from a depth of 998 meters. Water coming from the source, not colored, transparent, soda-salty taste, odorless, when aged forms an insignificant precipitate [4] .

Indications for use

The therapeutic use of Essentuki No. 4 mineral water is recommended outside the exacerbation phase in the following diseases [1] :

  • chronic gastritis with normal, low and high acidity;
  • reflux gastritis and reflux esophagitis ;
  • peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
  • diseases of the liver and biliary tract;
  • chronic pancreatitis;
  • obesity
  • chronic pyelonephritis ;
  • urolithiasis ;
  • chronic cystitis;
  • chronic urethritis;
  • violation of salt and lipid metabolism.

Due to the fact that when taken internally, Essentuki No. 4 mineral water stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid by the parietal cells of the stomach, it is prescribed for use as a therapeutic agent for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract with reduced secrecy (for example, atrophic gastritis). The therapeutic effect of Essentuki No. 4 mineral water, as well as other mineral waters, is not highly effective and has a long duration of action. However, its use in a warm form for 15-20 minutes before eating helps to stimulate the secretion of hydrochloric acid [5] .

Mineral water "Essentuki No. 4" is used to reduce the increased secretory function of the stomach in the balneological treatment of chronic gastritis and gastroduodenitis in children. It is prescribed 1.5-2 hours before a meal at the rate of 3-5 ml per kg of child's weight per day. In order to stimulate the secretory function of the stomach, Essentuki No. 4 mineral water is consumed in the same volume 20-30 minutes before a meal [6] .

In addition, intake of Essentuki No. 4 mineral water is indicated for restoring the rhythm of bowel movements in children suffering from constipation. For this purpose, water intake is prescribed in the morning from a quarter to one and a half glasses with a small amount of gas [7] .

Deposits
