Steinigen, Jens

Jens Steinigen ( German: Jens Steinigen ; September 2, 1966 , Dippoldiswalde , Karl-Marx-Stadt County , East Germany ) is a former German biathlete . Winner of the 1992 Winter Olympics in the relay . Bronze medalist of the 1993 Biathlon World Championship in Borovets in the relay race and the 1994 Biathlon World Championship in Canmore in the team race.

First declared itself, becoming the world champion among juniors in 1985. At the Biathlon World Cup, he began performing in the 1986/1987 season. The 1991-1992 season brought the first serious success in the World Cup, Jens won the individual race in Hochfilzen and the sprint in Ruhpolding . In 1992, he took part in the Winter Olympic Games , where he won the gold medal in the relay . In personal races, he showed the 6th result in the sprint and the 29th in the individual race . At the end of the season, he took 22nd place in the overall standings of the World Cup. The 1992/1993 season was his best in the World Cup, where in the overall standings he took 8th place. In the same season, he twice became a bronze medalist at the stages of the World Cup: in the individual race in Pokljuka and the sprint in Kontiolahti . In 1993, he took part in the World Championship in Borovets . In the relay race he won a bronze medal, and in the individual race he took 33rd place. In 1994, he took part in his second Olympics . In Lillehammer , Jens was the leader in the Individual Race after the second firing line and ended up in 5th place. However, he did not break into the relay team. In the same 1994, Jens took 3rd place in the German national team team race at the World Championships . Since the 1994/1995 season, his athletic performance has declined, and in 1996 he completed his appearances in the World Cup.

Following the results of performances in the World Cup and World Championships in personal races, he got into the top ten 12 times, of which 2 times on the podium.
