Dorothea Arnold - the daughter of the classical philologist Wolfgang Schadewaldt , studied at the University of Munich and Tübingen . In 1963, Arnold defended her doctoral dissertation in Tübingen. She took part in excavations organized by the Cairo German Archaeological Institute. Since 1985, she worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and headed the Egyptian department.
Dorothea Arnold specializes in ancient Egyptian ceramics, which Egyptologists had not given due attention to before. Arnold organized several exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Married to an Egyptologist Dieter Arnold .
