History

The monument to underage workers of the rear owes its appearance to the Children to the Front society, which appeared in 1992. It took the initiative to open a monument to children whose work during the years of World War II was a great contribution to the common victory.

The author of the monument was the sculptor Ivan Ivanovich Melnikov . Initially, it was planned to make a sculpture of a boy with the working title "Alyosha the Younger." The monument was to symbolize the children and younger brothers of those who left to fight. When the project was already created and its details were discussed, the women of the Children to the Front society raised the question that the monument does not reflect the work of girls in the rear. The argument was taken into account, and a girl figure was added to the boy’s figure [1] .

A boy and a girl are depicted in clothes of the 1940s, sitting on a bench and holding hands, symbolizing pure and sincere feelings. The sculptural composition is made of bronze and mounted on a granite pedestal and marble base. On the pedestal, on one side, there is a plate with the name of the monument, on the other - a plate with verses:

A special road fell out
WAR DID NOT BECOME YOU FOR CHILDREN
A HOMELAND ASK YOU STRICTLY

The monument was unveiled on June 12, 1996.
