Biography
In childhood, he remained an orphan, in 1881 he graduated from St. Yatsk Gymnasium, then entered the Jagiellonian University at the Faculty of Law, which he graduated in 1887 with a doctorate in law. As a student, he began to engage in journalism, wrote critical articles on literature, music, theater, and painting. In 1890-1903 he was the secretary of the Krakow Art and Literary Society, since 1912 he was a member of the Krakow Union of Journalists. He was known as an opponent of all the new-fangled trends and trends in various arts, while he was not particularly well versed in modernism, so in the late 1890s he became the object of ridicule of many artists. He rejected all new things until the end of his life and in independent Poland actively opposed the futurists. In 1922, a year before his death, he became a teacher of Polish literature at the municipal drama school. He was buried in the Rakovitsky cemetery.
He collaborated in Pravda, literary additions to The Land, Athenaeum, The Illustrated Book of God and other publications. Of the works of Prokesh, the most famous are “Nasi powiesciopisarze” (1886), “Monitor, czasopismo polskie z XVIII w.” (1895), “Pierwsza emancypantka z XVIII w.” (1900), “Marya Konopnicka w świecie Krytyki literackiej” (1902) .
