The United States and Vanuatu collaborate to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of democracy, security, and economic development.

US trade with Vanuatu is very limited. Vanuatu is a party to the US-Pacific Islands Multilateral Tuna Fisheries Treaty , which provides access to territorial waters for American fishing vessels in exchange for industrial development. Under a separate economic assistance agreement, the United States government is currently providing $ 21 million per year to Pacific nations.
