Frantisek Xaver Prusik (November 24, 1845, Vyrov - June 7, 1905, Stupczyce u Tabor) - an Austro-Hungarian Czech philosopher, Slavic philologist, historian of Russian literature, researcher of ancient literary monuments, teacher.
He graduated from the academic gymnasium in Prague, then entered the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Prague, which he graduated in 1868 with a Ph.D. during training he studied Slovak, French and English, then various Slavic languages. Even before graduating from the university (in 1867) he founded the Union of Czech Philologists, then he was a member of the charity for helping poor philosophers. Since 1868, for four years he taught Czech at the German gymnasium in Pilsen. Having improved as a teacher of Czech language and classical philology, from 1872 he became a teacher in a real gymnasium in Pribram, from where in 1877 he transferred to the director of a real gymnasium in Rudnica. In 1885 he became a director and taught the title of professor at the academic gymnasium in Prague. At the end of 1901 he retired.
In the years 1887-1889 he edited and published the magazine "Krok". Since 1891 he was an academician of the Royal Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. He was one of the founders of the Minerva association, in 1890–1891 and 1893–1895 he headed it. His main works are: “Wie sind die possessiven Adjectiva auf -uj und -ov und die possessiven Pronomina moj, tvoj, svoj im Slavischen zu deuten?” (1876); Studie o dativě (1876); “O comparativě ve slovanštině” (1882); “Původ jmene Čech” (1885); “About filol. námítkách proti rukop. Kraledv. a Zelenoh. "(1886); Staročeské Alexandreidy rymované (1896). In addition, he performed a number of translations of scientific works from various Germanic, Romance, and Slavic languages (including English, German, French, Slovenian, Russian).
