In the mid -1980s, Marx could be heard singing alongside concerts by such popular performers as Madonna and Whitney Houston . He sang along with Lionel Richie on his all-time hit All Night Long ( 1984 ). Then he began to write his own songs, which were initially performed by the Chicago group and the “king of the love song” Kenny Rogers .
In 1987, Marx finally released his debut album. He made the aspiring singer a superstar and soon three of his songs - “ Hold On to the Nights ”, “ Satisfied ” and “ Right Here Waiting ” - were on top of the Billboard Hot 100 - the official hit parade of the United States.
Throughout the 1990s, the audience gradually cooled down to the solo works of Marx, who again began to write songs for other, more popular performers. For example, he wrote and produced for Sarah Brightman the song “The Last Words You Said”, which he sang with Sarah a duet (1999) [2] , and also wrote music for “ To Where You Are ” for Josh Groban ( 2000 ) .
At the 46th Grammy Awards ( 2004 ), Marx was awarded in one of the most prestigious nominations - “Song of the Year” - for the song “ Dance with My Father ”, written for the late Luther Vandross .
