Biography

Francis Newdigate was born December 31, 1862 in Chelsea ( London , England ) in the family of Lt. Col. Francis William Newdigate and his first wife, Charlotte Elizabeth Agnes Sophia, nee Woodford ( Charlotte Elizabeth Agnes Sophia, née Woodford ). He changed his surname to Newdegate in 1902, fulfilling the will of his uncle [1] .

Newdigate studied at Eton College , then in Germany (in Leipzig and Hanover ), and then at the Royal Military School in Sandhurst . Since 1883, he served in the , in which, in 1885-1887, he visited India, Australia and other British colonies [1] .

On March 30, 1917, Francis Newdegate took office as governor of Tasmania . He worked in this post until February 22, 1920 [2] .

After that, Newdegate was appointed Governor of Western Australia and took office on April 9, 1920. He worked in this post until June 16, 1924 [3] .

After this, Newdegate returned to England. He died on January 2, 1936, in county of Warwickshire ] [1] .
