Visiting professor ( Eng. Visiting professor ) - a professor who is invited for temporary teaching or research work in a non-core educational institution.
General information
A visiting professor, as a position open in a particular educational or research institution, makes it possible to attract outside specialists with significant scientific authority for temporary work. Typically, such cooperation is associated with the implementation of a specific work program and can last from several months to a year. However, the term may be extended [1] .
Since one of the essential tasks is to transfer scientific experience in its entirety, as a rule, an invited professor is expected to actively cooperate in such activities as:
- conducting lectures and seminars on the subject of their scientific works;
- conducting joint research with the host;
- participation in discussions of the results of research activities of the employees of the host country.
In academic practice, the involvement of a scientist as a visiting professor is seen as a recognition of his outstanding scientific contribution. On the other hand, this practice allows teachers and graduate students of the host organization to gain experience in cooperation with the best, including foreign, specialists [2] [3] .
Some Features
Usually the minimum condition for taking the position of a visiting professor is that the applicant has a doctorate . In military schools, a general or admiral rank may be sufficient [4] .
