Dupuis, Pierre (historian)

Pierre Dupuy ( French Pierre Dupuy ), also Peter Puteanus ( Latin Petrus Puteanus ; November 15, 1582, Agen - December 14, 1651, Paris) - French historian, bibliographer and legal scholar.

Biography

Born in the family of parliamentary councilor (1545-1594). He received a law degree, from February 8, 1607 he could practice as a lawyer.

In 1615, Mathieu Molét , Attorney General of the Paris Parliament , was appointed to catalog the collection of documents known as the , located in two rooms of Saint-Chapelle . Dupuis continued this work from 1615 to 1623, on January 31, 1623 for the work he was awarded the rank of , and his work and its copy were in the National Library .

In 1617, before his death, Jacques Auguste de Tuix appointed Pierre and his brother guardians of his son and his archives, part of which was the second largest library in France at that time. Having moved to his mansion, the brothers created the Dupuis Academy (since 1635 it was called the Cabinet to avoid confusion with the French Academy ) - an informal intellectual society.

In August – September 1618, Dupuis lived in The Hague, opposed the Jesuits, and helped Protestant Arminians . Since 1624, in the rank of adviser, he dealt with legal issues under Cardinal Richelieu . November 3, 1638 became a member of the Council of State . Since June 1645, together with his brother, he lived in Paris on the Rue de la Harpe, in the same house where the royal library was located.
