Feldshu, Tova

Tova Feldshuh ( born December 27, 1952) is an American actress, singer, and playwright who is most successful thanks to her performances on the Broadway and off-Broadway stages, earning four Tony Award nominations. For his work on television, Feldshu was twice nominated for an Emmy .

Career

Feldshu began her career on the stage under the pseudonym Terry Fairchild, but soon decided to perform under her real Jewish name. In 1973, she made her Broadway debut in the short-lived musical Cyrano with Christopher Plummer . Then she played a major role in the play United, first staged on an off-Broadway, and in 1975 on the Broadway stage. In 1975, she won the Drama Desk and the Theater World Award for her production game, and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play [4] .

Over the years, Feldshu has starred in productions of Dreyfus at Rehearsals, Rogers and Hart, Sarava, Borrow Me a Tenor, and Irena's Oath. Her greatest success can be considered the role of Golda Meir in the play of one woman, “Golda's Balcony”, which set a record for the duration in its genre, lasting more than two years on Broadway. For her roles in Sarava, Lend Me a Tenor and Gold Balcony, Feldshu received three additional nominations for the Tony Award. Also, these roles brought her two "Drama Desk"; in 1989 and 2003 [4] . In 2013 and 2014, she performed in the musical "Pippin", alternating in the characteristic roles of Andrea Martin and Annie Potts . In addition, Feldshu played an extensive range of roles on the off-Broadway stage [5] .

Feldshu has played almost a hundred roles in television and film during her career spanning five decades. In 1976, she began acting in the New York soap opera Nadezhda Ryan, and in subsequent years she took on guest roles in the TV series The Bob Newhart Show, Family , The Burnaby Jones, Love Boat , and Law Los Angeles . " In 1978, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a mini-series or film for her role in the mini-series Holocaust . From 1991 to 2007, Feldshaw played the recurring role of Daniel Melnik, a powerful defense attorney, in the NBC series Law & Order . This role also earned her an Emmy nomination in 2003 [6] . In 2011, she repeated this role in the episode Law and Order: Criminal Intent . In 2015, Feldshoo joined the AMC series The Walking Dead , playing the role of Diana Monroe, head of Alexandria. The role in the original comic was originally assigned to the man [7] .

Personal life

Feldshu was born in New York, in the Jewish family of housewife Lilian Kaplan and lawyer Sidney Feldshu [8] . She has a brother, playwright David Feldshaw, known as the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Children of Miss Evers . She grew up in the affluent suburbs of Westchester, New York , where she graduated from Sarah Lawrence Private College. Then she practiced acting under the guidance of Uta Hagen , and also studied at the University of Minnesota [9] . In 1977, Feldshaw married New York Attorney Andrew Harris Levy, they have two children [9] .
