Biography
Studied as an engineer. Having taken part in an amateur competition in Düsseldorf, he was noticed by the tenor and at his insistence began to study singing in Duisburg , then in Essen .
He made his debut in 1961 in Münster . In 1964 he moved to Essen, since 1965 he worked at the (Düsseldorf / Duisburg).
He performed in Germany ( Dusseldorf , Duisburg , Hamburg ), at the Metropolitan Opera (debut in the party of Hunding in Valkyrie - 1967), in the Paris (1967) and Vienna Opera (since 1968), in Covent Garden (since 1971 - the party of Hunding , Hagen in " Death of the Gods "). He has toured in La Scala , the Colon Theater, the Grand Opera and others.
He repeatedly performed at the Bayreuth Festival , Salzburg Easter Festival ( Hans Sachs in the “ Nuremberg Mastersingers ”, conductor G. Karajan ; 1974).
Family
He was twice married. Two sons, a daughter.
Creativity
Possessed a beautifully resonating, thick voice [5] . His repertoire included dramatic and comic roles; his performance in the operas of R. Wagner was especially appreciated.
