Biography
Born in the family of a flour dealer, early (in 1753) lost his father. From the age of 10 he studied at the Jesuit school, where his melodious voice in the mezzo-soprano range emerged, switched to tenor in 1761 and to bass in 1763, with which he was adopted into the chapel of Elector Mainz .
He first performed on the stage in 1767. In 1776-1780 he sang at the Munich Court Theater , and from 1780-1783 at the National Theater of Vienna . In 1783-1784 he performed in Paris (mainly as a concert singer), in 1784-1785 he made a tour of Italy ( Naples , Rome , Florence , Milan , Venice ). In 1785 he was invited to Germany by Prince Maximilian Thurn-i-Taxis . In 1788, I. F. Reichardt engaged him in the Italian opera in Berlin , where after the first performance the king offered him a life-long post with a content of 2,000 thalers. As wrote, the admiration of the inhabitants of Berlin who heard the real bass on the stage was endless.
Since 1812, spoke very rarely. In 1815 he retired.

- Joseph (in marriage to him. Josepha Fischer-Vernier ; 1782, Vienna - 1854, Mannheim) - opera singer; leaving the stage, in 1835 she founded a music school for girls in Vienna. Her daughters Frederick (died in February 1877) and Josephine (died 16.8.1856) in the 1830s worked as actresses in Mannheim.
- Wilhelmina (1785, Vienna -?) - singer, performed in Graz, then in the Stuttgart Court Theater; in 1822, she left the stage, having married Baron von Velden; lived in the castle Möhringen near Stuttgart .
The adoptive daughter Anna (in marriage German. Anna Fischer-Maraffa ; 1802, Ansbach - 10/20/1866, Mannheim) - the daughter of Stuttgart court actor Midtke ( Miedtcke ); after the death of her parents in 1804, she was adopted by Joseph Fischer, who taught her the art of singing. Successfully performed in Paris, Italy, Spain.
