The species is included in the simoni species-group ( Formicoxenini , or Crematogastrini ). Close to the species Nesomyrmex nanniae and Nesomyrmex entabeni . Previously, representatives of the genus were considered as part of the genus Leptothorax . The species was first described in 2008 by African entomologists N. Mbanian ( Nokuthula Mbanyana ) and H. Robertson ( Hamish G. Robertson ; Natural History Collections Department, Iziko South African Museum , Cape Town , South Africa ) based on materials from South Africa. The specific name is given in honor of Rouen Veldtman (Dr Ruan Veldtman), who, together with Antoinette Botes, investigated the ants in Cederberg [1] .
