Life

Saint Caesarea deacon from Africa , suffered in Terracina , sovr. Italy Traveling to Rome, due to an accident, St. Caesarea stopped in Terracina. There, on January 1, the young man Lucian was to be brought as an annual sacrifice to Apollo . He should have been thrown off the cliff. St. Caesarea opposed such a sacrifice. An Apollo minister named Firminius grabbed the saint and sent him to the consul named Leonty, to whom the sacrifice order was given. The castle, where they brought the saint, collapsed, and Firminius remained buried under the rubble [1] .

St. Caesarea was imprisoned for a month, after which he appeared before the court. However, the consul Leonty suddenly believed, and having communed with a priest named Julian, he went to the Lord. Lussuri, who became consul in his place, sentenced St. Caesarea and Julian to drowning. They were put in a bag and thrown into the sea. Lussuri, having gone to Rome, was bitten by a snake, from which he died, as was predicted by St. Caesarea during interrogation [2] . The bodies of St. Caesarea and Julian were washed ashore, where they were found by a monk named Eusebius. His prayers at the place of their burial led many to repentance, many were baptized by a priest named Felix. In turn, Eusebius and Felix were captured by the son of the consul Leonty, beheaded and thrown into the river. Their bodies were found and buried by a priest named Quart of Capua .

While the death of St. Caesarea is sometimes attributed to the year 60 or 110, it is most likely that he suffered in the III century during the reign of Emperor Diocletian .
