Kopf Crater ( lat. Kopff ) - a large impact crater on the northeastern edge of the East Sea on the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the German astronomer Augustus Kopff (1882-1960) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970. The formation of the crater dates back to the late Imperial period [1] .

Crater Description
The closest neighbors of the Kopf crater are the Gomann crater in the west; Munder Crater in the northwest and Lalleman Crater in the northeast. To the west of the crater is the Vostochnoe Sea , in the north of the Kopf groove and beyond them the Ruk mountains , in the east is Lake of Spring [2] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 40.5 km [3] , depth 2.2 km [1] .
Kopf Crater has a polygonal shape and has not been practically destroyed. The shaft is narrow, with a sharply defined sharp edge, the inner slope is smooth. In the northwestern part at the foot of the inner slope, scree of rocks is visible. The shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1040 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 1300 km3 [1] . The bottom of the bowl is flooded with lava and has a low albedo corresponding to the surface of the East Sea. In the southeastern part, the bottom of the bowl is covered with a network of narrow furrows formed during solidification of the lava, in the northeast part of the bowl at the foot of the inner slope there is a noticeable fresh crater with a high albedo and a small ray system.
Due to its location near the southwestern limb of the Moon, the crater during the observations has a distorted shape, observations depend on libration .
