Biography
Born in 1836 in Bessarabia. He received secondary education in the Chisinau gymnasium . In 1853 he entered the St. Petersburg Construction School and in 1860 he graduated from the first category, receiving the title of civil engineer. He was appointed the manufacturer of works in the Odessa Construction Committee. In the years 1860-1870, he actively collaborated as an author with the newspaper Odessa Messenger . He published a large number of articles on urban management in this newspaper, and also edited materials on urban governance. From 1866 to 1870 he served with Baron K.K. Ungern-Sternberg , who was building the Odessa-Kremenchug railway. In 1870-1875 he served as an urban technician, took part in the development of projects for the construction of bridges, collectors , gas lighting, water supply and other urban structures. From 1873 to 1878 he was an architect at the Odessa Institute of Noble Maidens .
He was the founder of the Odessa Society of Engineers and Architects. At the meetings of this society, he made a number of reports on the removal of urban sewage through sewers. He was elected the vowel of the Odessa City Council.
Publishing
In 1874, M. P. Ozmidov purchased from KV Kartamyshev the first private Odessa periodical - the newspaper Novorossiysk Telegraph. By this time, the newspaper had neither subscribers nor employees; a break in its publication was about two years. M.P. Ozmidov became the editor-publisher of the newspaper and resumed its publication in January 1875. In the very first years after the resumption of publication, the number of newspaper subscribers reached 5 thousand. Since 1880, the newspaper has been published daily (350 issues per year). Thanks to the involvement of a number of talented publicists, the newspaper constantly published interesting articles on geography, ethnography, statistics, history and economics. The newspaper had correspondents abroad. The newspaper’s editorial office had its branches in St. Petersburg , Moscow and Kiev ; in these cities a subscription to the newspaper was accepted.
The content of the newspaper corresponded to the nationalist significance of the slogan “Russia for Russians” and had an anti-Semitic orientation.
Since 1897, after the death of M. P. Ozmidov, the publication of the newspaper was continued by his widow - Zinaida Konstantinovna (1843-1899), daughter of the famous lawyer K. A. Nevolin [1] .
M. P. Ozmidov was also the editor-publisher of the Novorossiysk Leaflet (newspaper of announcements, 1881–1883) and the Legal Chronicle of the Novorossiysk Telegraph (1882) [2] .
